Use the good china now

I’m staying at my dad’s place this week. His wife has a very large collection of tea cups and saucers. They’re elegantly arranged everywhere you look, in specially designed caddies, on dedicated shelving units, on top of the bookshelves and kitchen cupboards, on many spare surfaces throughout the house.

She encouraged me to use any and all of them during my stay. ‘The porcelain can dry out and crack if they’re not used.’ One of my aunts told her this. That aunt died suddenly last week. It came as a shock to everyone.

Her death was a reminder to use the good china now. Use those fancy plates you save for special occasions or when company comes. Today is a special day, and you’re worthy of those beautiful items, even if just for a simple cheese sandwich.
